It gets GPS time that's being rebroadcast by cellular CDMA base stations. We've started using a really fun little box from EndRun Technologies called the Praecis Ct. As part of the Resilient Overlay Networks project at MIT, I maintain a testbed of about 20 nodes, most of which have GPS-based time synchronization.
